Description
Phenol Red Maltose HiVeg Agar is recommended for studying maltose fermentation by the pure cultures of microorganisms.Positive reaction is indicated by the production of a yellow colour in agar due to acid production. Gas production is indicated by the splitting of agar or by the bubbles formation. Escherichia coli, Klebsiella pneumoniae, Proteus vulgaris, Salmonella Typhimurium are known maltose fermentors and gives positive reaction. Alcaligenes faecalis do not ferment maltose, hence there is no colour change of the medium. Phenol Red Maltose HiVeg™ Agar is prepared by using vegetable peptones in place of animal based peptones which make the media free of BSE/TSE risks.
