ABOUT HIMEDIA

HiMedia Laboratories Private Limited is an Indian origin Bioscience company headquartered in Mumbai, Maharashtra, India. HiMedia is one of the most prominent biosciences companies in India.

The company was established 48 years ago, by Dr. Gangadhar M. Warke, a soil Microbiologist, along with his wife, Mrs. Saroj G. Warke and his younger brother, Mr. Vishnu M. Warke. Today, HiMedia as an organization is engaged in developing, manufacturing, and selling of majority of bioscience-based products worldwide, and has expanded bases by establishing offices and warehouses in Europe and the USA.

HiMedia is named as ‘Pride of India’ by Bioscience experts as it is the first registered organization of Indian origin, founded by an Indian scientist for manufacturing microbiology media based on in-house R&D technology.

Dr. Warke’s ability to convert research into successful commercial products, his immense knowledge and command over microbiology recipes led to HiMedia’s historic contribution to world of microbiology, leading the company to being numero uno in introducing high tech products in global market at affordable rates, which were otherwise being imported at exorbitant prices. In those days, the US and UK dominated the Indian market in microbiology products and most of the media ingredients required by the scientists were too expensive. There was an extensive gap in demand for affordable bioscience research products and genuine supply. This breach was packed magnificently by HiMedia’s own manufacturing units for raw materials, finished products and marketing network in India. Dr.Warke has been on the mission to make India self-reliant in all bioscience’s products. In pursuit of this “Make in India Dream”, the very first uphill task was to obtain a license and gain product recognition in India. The state-of-the-art R&D facilities are the main driving force in the mission of HiMedia to provide affordable and quality products. HiMedia’s “One Quality across the Globe” policy made it popular in more than 150 countries including Japan, USA, Europe, all Middle East countries, Brazil, Russia, Africa and China etc.

The humble expedition started from microbiology products with 5 products, now magnified to more than 30,000 SKUs and successful diversification into products related to Animal Cell Culture, Plant Tissue Culture, Molecular Biology, Agro-industry, lab chemicals, and lab aids, etc. HiMedia’s involvement in cutting-edge research, technology applications, and strong potential in translational projects made it popular as a collaborating partner with premier academic and research institutes in India and abroad. Continuous urge to contribute to society using advanced technologies delivered to HiMedia’s new wing “higronics” which provide “One-Stop” solution for hydroponics-based projects. HiMedia’s family business is also greatly engaged in corporate social responsibility which gives a high amount of satisfaction as a human being.

Under the expert stewardship of Dr. G.M. Warke , Mr. V. M Warke , Mrs. Saroj Warke and Next-Gen directors Dr.Vishal G. Warke, Dr.Rahul G. Warke, Dr.Rajas V. Warke, Dr.Priti V. Warke, Dr.Kavita M. Khadke and Ms.Sheetal R. Warke, HiMedia is all set to working towards portfolio expansion opportunities. HiMedia is scaling up its capacity by 5 folds to produce Ready Prepared culture media plates from the current capacity.

At a time when the COVID-19 pandemic of 2020 had a crippling effect on the nation’s businesses, HiMedia strongly supported our country’s fight against the virus by providing timely provisions of Swab Sample Collection Kits (VTM), Viral RNA extraction kits used in diagnosis of the SARS-CoV-2 infection in India and coronavirus multiplex probe PCR kit which was developed for sensitive and reliable detection of the SARS CoV 2 virus.

HiMedia has ventured into intuitive medicine by means of PCR based detection of anti-microbial markers helping clinicians to decide their drug of choice. They are also enhancing the bioinformatics space for sequencing and post sequencing gene mapping analysis. HiMedia’s insights, ambitions, and accomplishments, in many ways, compliment the stellar community of Indian scientists.
