Kanamycin Esculin Azide HiVeg™ Broth Base is used for selective isolation and identification of group D Streptococci in foodtuffs. Kanamycin sulphate and sodium azide are the selective inhibitory agents. Esculin and ferric ammonium citrate together forms the indicator system to detect esculin-hydrolyzing Streptococci, which changes colour of the medium to black.It is prepared by replacing animal peptones with vegetable defined peptones to avoid BSE/TSE/GMO risk.
