Brilliant Green Sulpha HiVeg™ Agar is recommended for isolation and detection of Salmonella species in food, especially eggs and egg products. The media is highly selective. Addition of 0.1% sodium sulphapyridine helps to increase the selectivity of the medium. Brilliant green acts as the inhibitory to gram-positive and most gram-negative lactose or sucrose fermenting bacilli. Sulphapyridine acts as the selective agent. Salmonella Typhi and Shigella fails to grow on the media. This medium is prepared by replacing animal peptones with vegetable defined peptones to avoid BSE/TSE/GMO risk.
